POSTECH INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

POSTECH International Relations

PBUD

ABOUT PBUD

PBUD is a student organisation supporting internationalisation in POSTECH. Our mandate involves advancing the international prominence of POSTECH as
the designated global ambassadors of POSTECH.

PBUD, an abbreviation for POSTECH Buddy, possesses the essence of being ‘벗’(BUD, a Korean word which stands for friends) and companions of the exchange students,
supporting them through various aspects during their time in POSTECH.

PBUD strives to foster the adaptation of foreign exchange students to both Korean culture and university life through activities including dormitory application assistance,
academic guidance, and orientation session. Furthermore, we passionately plan and execute a wide range of events and cultural experiences for exchange students
to provide them with a glimpse of Korean lifestyle.

We are committed to surmounting linguistic barriers and addressing the difficulties regarding cultural differences between local and international students.
The organization endeavours to alleviate challenges that exchange students face in academics and daily life, ultimately contributing to the formation of
an international network within POSTECH.

What We Do

Inbound Activities

We pbud operate several inbound activities according to the set plans every semester.
The purpose of the activity is to help exchange students adapt to school and give more chance to communicate with Korean Students. Typical activities are as follows.

  • 1. Pohang city Walking tour

The walking tour during the orientation is an activity to visit major tourist attractions in Pohang and carry out some missions.
You can taste the essence of Pohang City by browsing around Pohang City with friends, including Jukdo Market, Space Walk, and Yeongildae.

  • 2. DICE MT

At the beginning of each semester, exchange students living in DICE and PBUD members leave MT by the sea together.
We get closer to each other by swimming together and playing all night. Aren't you looking forward to Korean barbecue?

  • 3. Culture Muncher Day

Don't you want to share your country's culture with Korean students?
Running every semester, Culture Muncher Day is an event where you become a host of booths and share your country's food with Korean students.
You can share food, communicate freely with Korean students, and make many friends during the booth.

Outbound Activities

We conducts activities targeting overseas universities and participates in various events to celebrate visiting guests.

We play a role in enhancing school activities by providing detailed and vivid explanations of the school's strengths,
which can be seen directly through explanations of the school's main facilities, greetings, and student participation.
( Students visit POSTECH in summer and winter, and our PBUD conducts a training camp for a certain period of time to carry out these activities.)

At the guest visit event such as embassy, students can participate and share a wide range of stories about school life through conversation and meals with the guests.

Recommendation

About POSTECH and PBUD from students for the fall semester of 2023
  • Tristan

When you first arrive in Korea, you may encounter difficulties in withdrawing money as their bank accounts might not be immediately accessible. Therefore, it is advisable for you to consider exchanging some currency in advance to have some cash on hand.

  • Noah

Creating a well-thought-out mobile plan is essential. In Korea, since KakaoTalk is widely used, it is advisable to create an account in advance. Through KakaoTalk, you can not only transfer money but also conveniently call for taxis.

  • Niklas

"Don't be afraid and try a variety of foods. Korea has many delicious dishes. Among them, my favorite is fried chicken."

I think it is important to find the support group in POSTECH. Since one might feel homesick, making friends is crucial for a sense of connection and belonging.
